Wilmington Bypass – I
The I-140 Wilmington Bypass measures 6.2 miles and was completed with design/build partner, HDR. The project includes widening two miles along the existing US17 from two lanes to four lanes and installing new location along 4.2 miles from US17 to the US75/US76 interchange. The design incorporates a “super-street” design where the left-hand turns from side streets are re-routed, as is traffic from side streets that crosses the thoroughfare. There are 14 bridges on the project and it traverses environmentally sensitive areas requiring 404/401 permits from the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
