Barnhill Contracting Company was founded on highway construction. Barnhill was responsible for building the first farm-to-market road in North Carolina—from Ahoskie to Murfreesboro. Since that time, the division has grown to complete the projects from Maryland to South Carolina.
Our Highway Division provides construction services to Departments of Transportation in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Recognized as one of the leading highway contractors in the state, Barnhill's Highway Division has completed more than 250 projects for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Services include design/build, project management, grading, erosion control, wetland mitigation and storm drainage.
Notable projects completed by Barnhill's Heavy Highway include the US13/NC11 project just south of Bethel, North Carolina which was nominated for a Pinnacle Award for Best Highway Project in 2000; the Knightdale Connector just outside of Raleigh, North Carolina and the Windsor Bypass, both of which are design/build projects for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
