WINDSOR BYPASS
windsor, north carolina

The Windsor Bypass was nominated for a Carolinas AGC Pinnacle Award for Best Highway Project in 2008.

The Windsor Bypass represents the last link in establishing a four-lane highway from the North Carolina state line in Camden County to Raleigh, the state capital. The project included upgrading a section of existing Highway 17 to a high-speed, multi-lane highway, bypassing the town of Windsor in Bertie County. The project included 2.3 miles of widening existing road from two to four lanes and 7.3 miles of new alignment, four-lane divided highway, as well as dual 1,700-bridges across the Cashie River. The project was scheduled with a completion date of February 2008, but was substantially complete in June 2008, some five months ahead of schedule.

Barnhill Contracting Company's design partner for this Design/Build project was HDR Engineering of the Carolinas.
