Controller - Corporate Office
Tarboro, North Carolina
Barnhill Contracting Company is seeking a Controller to work from our Tarboro office. Through the efforts of the Controller, all accounting procedures and functions are managed. The Controller has responsibility for all financial records, payroll, and daily operation of the accounting department.
The Controller is directly responsible to the Chief Financial Officer for the proper discharge of his/her duties. The Controller’s principal duties are to perform all required accounting functions of the company in a timely and accurate manner. Provide reports and schedules to the company’s CPA Firm in the preparation of all financial statements. In order to perform these principal duties the following must be properly fulfilled:
- Have a complete and thorough knowledge of all accounting functions and procedures.
- Must have thorough knowledge of the Construction Integrated Job Cost and General Ledger Software Accounting Systems of the company. Proficient with other computer software systems for the preparation of reports, spreadsheets and other accounting analysis that may be required by management.
- Supervise and manage office administrative staff of 16 employees.
- Supervise and manage operations of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables.
- Supervise the timely preparation of weekly field and office payrolls, making proper federal, state and 401K deposits into respective accounts.
- Preparation of quarterly federal and state payroll tax returns.
- Supervise the monthly accrual, preparation and remittance of appropriate sales tax due to various counties and to the State of North Carolina.
- Perform monthly and fiscal year end accounting close outs.
- Perform year-end 401k and Profit Sharing testing.
- Preparation of renewal prequalification statements for state licensing.
- Supervise and reconcile with federal and state quarterly reports the preparation of employee year end W2’s and 1099 Forms distributing to employee/payee and appropriate Federal and State Agencies.
Preferred Experience: MBA, accounting background. Experience in construction industry helpful, but not mandatory

Pipe Foreman - Minimum 5 Years Experience
Fayetteville, North Carolina
* Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in laying pipe and constructing manholes
* Responsible for knowing and implementing government and company safety regulations and policies
* Reads blueprints and interprets data in all phases of laying storm, sanitary sewer and water pipe
* Must meet Barnhill Contracting Company driver qualification standards
* Must be a US citizen, possess valid NC drivers license and social security card
