Located on nine acres within walking distance of Duke University, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and downtown retail gems like Brightleaf Square, West Village is located in the heart of Durham. To encourage more people to choose downtown as their home as well as their workplace, the West Village expansion encompasses warehouses and cigarette factories totaling over 950,000 sf. This adaptive mixed-use project will consist of 446 loft-style apartments, Class A office/lab space, urban retail space and a train station. A mix of approximately 70% residential and 30% non-residential space will foster healthy lifestyles for those in the community who work and live nearby. When completed, West Village will serve as an urban model of smart growth for the country to emulate. Because the project is a historic restoration, it requires in depth coordination with the Department of the Interior to ensure accurate restoration and to protect the historic tax credits on the project.
