| MCI Network managment center
research triangle park, north carolina
This six floor, 186,000-square foot building has a brick exterior and is designed from the ground up to allow MCI to monitor its global communications network. Additionally, a fully supervised Johnson Controls fire alarm system provides building loss protection and the building is fed with two separate medium-voltage feeders. These feeders, each capable of operating the facility, terminate in MCI-owned Square D 2500 KVA liquid filled transformers. The transformers feed a double ended Square D synchropower switch gear which utilizes an ASCO paralleling module for the control of two 1850 KW Caterpillar diesel engine generators. Power is distributed to each floor of the building with a standard radial distribution. Each floor of the building is also equipped with an Exide 150 KV Powerware UPS system for the supply of critical loads in each office and work station. This project was completed on a fast-track schedule.
