FICA Changes
After the start of the new year, you may have noticed a change in your paycheck. For 2011 ONLY, the IRS has reduced your FICA tax withholding amount from 6.2% to 4.2%. This means that your paycheck could be up to 2% larger! This is money that would normally be taken out of our paychecks anyway so take advantage and put it to good use!

One option you have is to increase your contribution to your 401(k) Plan! FICA withholdings are intended to help with your retirement (social security), so keep putting it towards a more secure retirement. Increasing your 401(k) contribution even 2% can go a long way to building an appropriate nest egg. For example, if you make $35,000 per year, that is an additional $700 that you can put away towards retirement.
